Subway / Bus: Thousands of residents and visitors use the extensive MBTA system of trains and buses to get in and around Boston. Over 300,000 people commute into Boston daily for work. Public transportation via bus, subway, and commuter train serves as a vital link between Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods and the greater Metro-Boston area.

Taxi: Boston’s taxis are regulated by the Boston Police Department’s Hackney Carriage Unit.  Under the authority of the Acts of 1930, the Police Commissioner appoints a unit commanded by a BPD Superior Officer to regulate the taxi industry.

Boat: Boston's Harbor helps connect residents and visitors to neighborhoods such as Charlestown and East Boston via water taxis.  The Harbor is always buzzing with a variety of sea-faring vessels ferrying passengers to and from locations along the water.  It is a great way to see the city skyline and some of Boston's famous buildings.

Boston attracts throngs of visitors year-round. Between April and November, the city sees hardly any slow times. Make reservations as early as possible if you plan to visit during traditionally busy periods.

You've probably heard the saying about New England weather: "If you don't like it, wait 10 minutes." Variations from day to day (if not minute to minute) can be enormous. You can roast in March and freeze in June, shiver in July and sweat in November. Dressing in layers is always a good idea.

Spring and fall are the best bets for moderate temperatures, but spring (also known as mud season) is brief. It doesn't usually settle in until early May, and snow sometimes falls in April. Summers are hot, especially in July and August, and can be uncomfortably humid. Fall is when you're most likely to catch a comfortable run of dry, sunny days and cool nights. Winters are cold and usually snowy -- bring a warm coat and sturdy boots.
